Mellieha, Malta Sunshine Break

We had a week in Mellieha, Malta, staying at DB seabank all inclusive.

My packing was 7 lightweight tee shirt/cotton tops, 3 shorts, 3 skirts (1 of which is reversible), new Lotta from Stockholm super comfy clogs, trainers, swim shoes, micro towel, bikinis, sun hat and 2 pairs of cullottes.

We stayed at DB Seabank Resort all inclusive at Mellieha, Malta.  Our first room had a view of the pool but was close to the lift and noisy so we moved to an identical room with a wonderful view of the allotments growing strawberries, melons and turnips, our balcony had full sun all day - we couldn't ask for more!

Food at the hotel was exceptionally good, self serve buffet with local dishes, a section entirely for vegetarians that had at least 4 different choices daily, wine/beer (the red was nice) and a huge selection of cheeses, salads and fruits - also a cake/dessert area.

Out and about it's a quiet area but buses run outside the hotel for a couple of Euros to Sliema and Valetta, which we have visited before.  Mellieha itself is pretty, with narrow streets.

The public beach was across the road from the hotel, clean and sandy with no litter.
The sea goes out about 50ft at waist length with no tide.

The hotel had several pools so we did pool in the morning, beach in the afternoon.
Although there were excursions we just wanted total relaxation and didn't venture far.
I rarely get through a whole book in a week, but had time to read three on this holiday!

Best bit:  Floating in the warm, shallow sea.

Only Regret:  not booking in advance to go and see Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum - Heritage Malta (bing.com) an underground Neolithic site dating back 4000bc, it is made up of vast chambers and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.   Tickets sell out weeks in advance and standby tickets are limited to 10 per day and involved a very early morning bus ride and a queue from 7am  with no guarantee of getting one, so we will return as this is well worth a visit.

Most useful piece of luggage:  Decathlon micro towels and swim shoes.
